He's confident in himself and his abilities, and while he isn't particularly interested in what others think of him, he's very protective of his pride, and values being successful--not to impress others, but for his own satisfaction. negative points. ■ stubborn Once he's set his mind on something, Deming has a one track mind. He's very resolute, and refuses to listen to others once he's convinced himself he's right. He won't listen to what anyone else has to say, but tends to push his own ideas onto others. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]ABOUT PAST EVENTS[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Deming's family came to Atlantis from China when he was still a baby, in search of more opportunities. His father opened a Chinese take out restaurant called Dynasty, able to buy a lot for fairly cheap in downtown Atlantis through a stroke of luck. From a young age, Deming always helped at the restaurant, answering phone calls, taking orders, preparing orders and helping out with anything that needed to be done. The restaurant grew fairly popular, known among the locals of Atlantis as one of the best authentic Chinese take out places. But it wasn't only the food that started attracting attention--as Atlantis became a larger, booming city, Dynasty's prime location also drew attention. For as long as Deming can remember, there had always been companies interested in buying out the restaurant, which Deming's father constantly refused. Deming's powers started to emerge when he was about ten years old. There wasn't a specific incident that made him realize he was a NEXT, but a series of small occurrences before he realized he could drain power from things. He could turn off lamps or battery powered flashlights, shutting down small electronics like cell phones by simply willing it hard enough. He started developing his power to be able to drain larger things like streetlights or overhead lamps, and in his late teens came to realize he could do a similar thing to people. He had never been interested in hero academy or becoming a hero, so he attended regular school, while strengthening his power on his own. He had grown up working at the restaurant, and though he did have a bit of a soft spot for the family business, he was mostly disdainful of it. Deming had no intentions of working at a take out place for the rest of his life, and through his effort got a scholarship for an architecture program at university, where he's currently in his second year. Upon entering university, Deming moved out to live in his own apartment, finding his own part time job as a server in another restaurant, determined to stop having to rely on his parents to support him, and though he still visited, he all but stopped helping out. He was finally beginning to gain his independence, building his own career separate from the family business. Though Deming spent most of his life improving his powers, and they did prove to be occasionally convenient, he had never had much reason to use them until several months ago. A huge fire all but destroyed the restaurant, the damage extensive enough that the restaurant had to be shut down. Since its closing, many corporations have been making offers to buy the building. With all the damage and all the money needed for restoration, Deming's father is considering selling it to the corporations, who can afford such large renovations. Although Deming had been trying to break free of the restaurant, the fire ended up bringing him back in. He was certain the fire was arson, and that the corporations had planned the whole thing, having been eyeing the building for years. He had always been critical of the hero system since its introduction, and helpless and needing someone to blame, he began sabotaging Hero TV and the corporations that sponsored it. He's been showing up at crime scenes and standing around looking like a bystander, messing with the equipment, the vehicles and cameras and whatever else he can drain. He's also become a passionate defender of Dynasty, and is doing anything he can to keep the lot in his family's hands. Not only electricity or fuel for machinery, but he can actually drain energy from people to a certain degree. He finds non-living things to be easier targets, and he can completely shut down most kinds of machinery, as long as he can see or touch it, though the closer he is to it the easier it gets. His effect on people isn't as strong, but he can calm people down or bring them down from an adrenaline rush, as well as tire them out, and at most make them faint if they're already in a weak state. weaknesses. ■ Draining the energy from something doesn't give Deming any more power or energy--in fact draining large power sources or taking a lot from people wears him out.
